AP Exam Information
Students enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses are strongly encouraged to take the corresponding AP Exam in the spring. These exams are typically scheduled during the first two weeks of May. Our AP exam registration opens in September and closes in November each year. This online process is done through the Total Registration platform and costs around $103 per exam. There is a fee reduction for students who receive free/reduced lunch. Late registration begins after the November deadline and concludes in February of the following year.
AP exams provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of college-level content and may earn them college credit, advanced placement, or both at participating colleges and universities. AP vs. Dual Credit?
Both AP and Dual Credit courses give students the chance to earn college credit while still in high school, but they work differently. In an AP course, students take a national exam at the end of the year, and colleges may award credit based on the score earned on that exam. In a Dual Credit course, students earn both high school and college credit by successfully completing the course and meeting the requirements set by the partnering college or university.
Both options can help students prepare for college-level work and challenge them academically. When choosing between AP and Dual Credit, students should think about their strengths, learning preferences, and future college plans. Families are encouraged to speak with their school counselor to determine which option best supports their academic goals.
